One of Ontario's rarest birds, the Eastern loggerhead shrike, is slowly increasing its numbers in the wild thanks to captive breeding and release conservation efforts. On Sunday, 10 shrikes were released 40 km south of Orillia, ON. This Wednesday, another nine birds will be released in the same area.

With gas prices soaring, drivers are starting to rethink how they commute in a bid to save money. For most people, more fuel efficient vehicles, including hybrid-electrics, are now squarely on the radar for a next vehicle purchase. PORT ROWAN, ON -- There's more good news for Port Rowan based Bird Studies Canada. Two significant grants in the past month are helping the not-for-profit organization study and protect at-risk bird species.
Last month, the not-for-profit organization received $677,000 from the federal government to study and protect wild bird species at-risk, their nests and their habitat. More good news has followed with Bird Studies Canada receiving two grants totalling $126,600 from the Ontario Species at Risk Stewardship Fund.

For decades, investors have jumped on the bandwagon about how consumers can use their dollars responsibly. It’s called investing in Ethical Funds (ie. ensuring your money is invested only in socially responsible and Earth-friendly companies). Ethical investing is consumerism at a niche level, meaning that not everyone is playing the investment game. Regardless, ethical investing has played a pioneering role — arguably, long before green was trendy — in raising awareness about how we use our dollars to better our communities and our planet.
Today, we’re seeing the emergence of the Green Consumer. For years, consumers have read food labels at the grocery store. Now, consumers are reading the ‘environmental’ label on products. They’re looking for terms like recyclable, phosphate free, organic, paper not derived from ancient forests, etc.
