Peterborough Green-Up announces One Thousand Acts of Green campaign
Peterborough, Ont (March 3, 2010) – Throughout the month of March, Peterborough Green-Up is challenging local residents to pledge an “act of green” to show they care about the environment.

The goal is to reach 1000 acts by the end of the month from those residing in the city and county. Everyone who pledges an act is eligible to win great prizes, such as an iPod Touch or gift certificates to local restaurants. To make this contest even more exciting, Green-Up’s Donald Fraser and Thalia Bock will brave the chilly early spring water and do a Polar Plunge after the entries are tallied.

“The one thousand acts of green campaign is a great way to engage the greater Peterborough community to reduce their carbon footprint”, says Donald Fraser, Manager of Air Quality programs at Peterborough Green-Up
The campaign is part of Peterborough Green-Up’s on-going Carbon CountDOWN program. The program encourages residents to reduce their carbon footprint through simple everyday actions.

The contest begins March 1st, 2010 and closes on March 31st, 2010 at midnight.

To enter, local residents are asked to calculate their carbon footprint at www.peterborough.zerofootprint.net and email a pledge that you will take on to countdown@greenup.on.ca. Full contest details are on Peterborough Zerofootprint website by clicking on “MyZeroWorld”.

The carbon countdown is funded by the Government of Ontario and its Community Go Green Fund.
