| Eat kangaroos, save the planet? |
|
It's news that's unlikely to have kangaroos jumping for joy. An Australian scientist says switching from beef to kangaroo burgers could greatly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the BBC is reporting. Unlike cows, kangaroos produce virtually no methane. That's because kangaroos have a different digestive system. Cows produce massive amounts of methane through flatulence and belching. Methane is more potent than carbon dioxide. Dr. George Wilson of the Australian Wildlife Services is now calling for even wider spread kangaroo farming. Currently, 30 million kangaroos are already farmed in the country. |
